Outdoor and Indoor: Reasons to Buy Matched Air Conditioner Systems

Outdoor and Indoor: Reasons to Buy Matched Air Conditioner SystemsIn a perfect world, your central A/C would last forever. In a nearly perfect world, when it failed, both components – indoor and outdoor – would fail at the same time. You wouldn’t have to decide whether to replace the failing outside condenser/compressor, for example, rather than upgrading to an entirely new system. While it’s tempting to just replace the component that’s no longer working, in most cases, buying matched A/C systems is the right decision. Here’s why.

Mismatched Systems Aren’t Designed to Work That Way

A central split-system A/C is designed to work as one cohesive system, with the inside and outside components working in tandem. It might be possible to match a new outside unit with your old inside evaporator/air handler, but that doesn’t mean the system will operate efficiently or effectively. And in many cases, mismatched systems won’t work at all.

Design Advances for You

With an upgraded central A/C – containing both units – you can take advantage of recent advances in technology, such as variable-speed and multi-level blower motors and compressors. With a mismatched system, those energy-saving features may not be possible.

Matched Systems Are More Efficient

A brand new central A/C that comes with a high Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) will deliver lower energy bills and enhanced home comfort. If you match a new component with an old component, you likely won’t see the highly rated cooling efficiency. Your efforts to save energy when conditioning your home’s air will always be hamstrung by a mismatched system.

Age Difference Is Problematic

If one component of your central A/C fails before the other, it probably won’t be long before the surviving unit fails. Once you start replacing components, rather than investing in a complete system replacement, you’ll always be dealing with the inefficiencies and performance problems of a mismatched system.

For many reasons, buying matched A/C systems is the right way to go. For help finding a new split-system A/C or heat pump for your San Antonio area home, please contact us at Beyer Boys.
